Graduation
Caps and Gowns
In recent years, the class treasury has paid for the caps and gowns.
The caps and gowns then become the property of the graduate and do not
have to be returned. Lots of seniors decorate their mortarboards. Gold
tassels indicate membership in the National Honor Society.
What your Seniors wear under their gowns is sometimes a source of
disagreement between parents and students. There are no dress codes but
good taste is always appreciated. Bright prints can sometimes be seen
under the girls’ white gowns. Be sure to try seeing how the dress with
the gown over it looks in the sunlight! Do try to discourage your
Senior from bringing beach balls, etc. which can be disruptive.
Graduation Announcements
Formal graduation announcements can be ordered through Jostens (the
class ring, and cap-and-gown company) on an individual basis. They may
be offered with other ordering opportunities passed on through the BHS
announcements, or you can use the company website,
www.Jostens.com.
The Bedford Citizens Scholarship Foundation no longer sells graduation
announcements.
2011 Graduation is Thursday June 9th. The ceremony starts promptly at 6:15 PM on the football field and
attendance is open to all if the ceremony is outdoors. If the weather
is inclement, the ceremony is moved indoors to the gymnasium and each
Senior is given a specific number of tickets for admittance.
The actual ceremony is recorded by Bedford TV and will be shown at various times.
Some good advice from post-graduate parents:
- If you have elderly guests, you might want to arrive a
little early for graduation so that you can get a “seat” rather than
sitting in the bleachers.
- Remember to bring along a jacket or sweater—once the sun
goes down it can become rather cool and windy on the football field.
After Graduation Activities
Many families go out to dinner at a local restaurant or have a small
gathering at home following the ceremony and reserve the “big”
graduation celebration/party for another date, since 90% of the
graduates attend the All Night Graduation Party beginning at 10:30 pm.
Reservations at local restaurants should be made well in advance, even
if you are planning to “take out.”
All Night Graduation
The All Night Graduation Event SHOULD NOT BE MISSED! It is a wonderful
time for the graduates and the last time that they will be together as
a class. The party is open to Bedford High School seniors ONLY and
admission is from 10:30 to 11:30 pm. There are no exceptions made to
these rules.
Students should purchase their tickets prior to graduation. Tickets are
NOT sold at the door. The tickets are generally sold during the lunch
blocks the week prior to Senior finals. After finals, tickets can be
purchased in the BHS Student Office. All of the evening’s activities
are included in the price of the ticket.
The Graduate should bring their yearbook to the party:
Some things a graduate should NOT bring to the party:
- Money
- Backpacks
- Graduation Gifts
- Jewelry
- Expensive Items
- Prescription drugs (if they are needed they should be given
to the EMT on duty at the party)
- Personal hygiene items because they are readily available
from the parent volunteers
Car Keys and Cell Phones will be kept safe by Chaperones.
Parents get to relax and sleep without worrying. The graduates are
“pushed” out the door at 5:30 am.
Citizens Scholarship Foundation Reception
The Citizens Scholarship Foundation (CSF) holds a reception close to
the date of graduation. The date is listed in the Parent / Student Handbook.
All scholarship recipients and members of the National Honor Society
and their parents are invited to attend the reception and light
refreshments are provided. The scholarship donor will give the
scholarship winners their awards individually. Mike Rosenberg, the
Master of Ceremonies, charms the audience with his wit and
professionalism and the Madrigal singers provide musical entertainment.
Dress Code: Dresses, Slacks, Jackets, Ties. No Jeans, shorts, flip-flops, or tees.
