Marching Band
The BHS Marching Band is an all-volunteer after school activity. Any
student in
grades 8 through 12 who plays an instrument and is interested in
participating
can join. There are no auditions. Contact the Marching Band advisor,
Mr. Felker
at x4113.
Marching Band rehearsals are after school. The band plays at all home
football
games, marches in the Bedford Day and Memorial Day parades, and
participates in
2-3 band competitions per year.
Marching Band participants are strongly encouraged to attend Band Camp
during
the summer, but it is not a requirement. There is a fee for the camp
and
scholarships are available from POMS (Patrons Of Music Students). For more information on
the camp or
scholarships, contact Mr. Felker.
Musical Theatre
The BHS musical is held in the Spring each year. The Music Department
announces
the musical selected at the Fall Concert and until then it is a closely
held
secret! Once the musical is announced, students can find
audition
information posted in the Music Department. Auditions are
open to all
students. Students will also be needed to participate as
members of the
stage crew.
Junior and Senior Districts
The Massachusetts Music Educators Association (MMEA), a statewide group
made up
of teachers from public and private schools, puts on a selective vocal
and
instrumental concert every year.

The music teachers will give students audition information and will
handle registering
interested students. Students in the 9th grade are eligible
to audition
for both Senior and Junior Districts.
Students who do exceptionally well at their Senior District audition
may be recommended
for the All-State Festival. If so, they must prepare another piece and
audition
in January.
Student-Led Vocal Ensembles
Usually, students organize a female and a male a
cappella group. Auditions may be held in the fall or spring
depending upon the student leaders. Interested students may
ask the music
teachers the names of the student leaders in order to learn more about
the
ensemble.
